The Double Up Food Bucks program was just featured on WLOS

Great news!
The Double Up Food Bucks program was just featured on WLOS (see link below)!
Two weeks ago a robo-call went out from BCDHHS to alert all SNAP/EBT recipients in Buncombe County about the Double Up Food Bucks program and how to access it. Since that time our office has been flooded with many dozens of calls from Buncombe County residents experiencing food insecurity who were excited to learn more about the program and begin using it. In many cases residents also shared their stories of economic inequities and were able to connect with information about additional food resources offered by our great partners such as Bounty and Soul, the YMCA mobile markets, Manna Foodbank partners, and Buncombe County’s pop-up markets!
The store sites involved in the Double Up program have already reported a large increase in new customers signing up for and using the program since the robo-call went out. The customer featured in the news story likely learned about the program as a result of this innovative and free marketing strategy. We are excited to share this outreach strategy and its results with Double Up program lead organizations around the country.
While the first year of this program has already been exciting and successful, we are looking at year two with great anticipation, and would like to thank everyone for the continued support of this program!

If you already receive SNAP/EBT benefits;

1. Sign up in the store (takes about 2 minutes) French Broad Food Co-Op or West Village Market
2. Shop local produce (season is ramping up!)
3. Earn Double Up Bucks (up to $20 a day)
4. Use them right then to buy more produce (doesn’t have to be local produce) or save them for another day.

Stretch your dollars, support local farmers, support your Co+op. Win-win-win!
