Composting,
Simplified.
Whether you have a backyard, an apartment, or no space at all, composting is easier—and more accessible—than most people think.
Ready to compost at home?
Perfect for homes with a yard, garden, or patio.
Turn fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds, leaves, and yard waste into nutrient-rich compost for your garden.
Use a Community Compost Site
No backyard? No problem.
Asheville and Buncombe County offer convenient food scrap drop-off locations where your food scraps are turned into compost for our community.
Many locations are free to use. By registering, you'll also receive updates about the program, help the City understand community participation, and may qualify for a free countertop compost bin. Some drop-off locations also require registration for site access.

Every Scrap Matters
Every banana peel, coffee ground, and eggshell kept out of the landfill helps build healthier soil, reduce waste, and support stronger local food systems across Western North Carolina.
Whether you compost at home or use a community drop-off site, every bucket makes a difference.
