Growing Community Campaign
This spring Bountiful Cities is launching our Growing Community Campaign and our goal in the next 3 months is to raise $13,000 to support community members and fund positions to:
Hire an assistant community garden network coordinator to support community gardens in growing more food this spring Develop an apprenticeship program as an educational pathway toward job opportunities for community members in low wealth communities. What does Growing Community look like in practice? Bountiful Cities centers equity in the work we do. For many years we have supported communities wanting to grow food and have sovereignty in a system that marginalizes Black and Brown people. Our goal, in addition to supporting existing gardens, is to develop an apprenticeship program centering equity, and enabling apprentices to choose which part of the food system they want to engage with most. Maybe it’s food waste reduction, or cooking education, or seed saving, or soil development, or maybe it’s governmental policy work. This collaborative project will bring together five organizations working within this field to host apprentices in support of developing skills and experience to aid their employment opportunities with these and other organizations. The program targets individuals and communities which typically have less access to these kinds of opportunities, especially people of color and people with low generational wealth. If you are able to contribute towards this phase of our community effort please donate here. If that’s not possible, you can assist by sharing this with friends and family, and anyone you know who is interested in long-term food security. Thanks so much and feel free to get in touch with [email protected] with any questions you may have. |
