 Ilustraciones Botánicas

INSTRUCTORA: Julia Moore
Te encanta el dibujo y la naturaleza? Ven a aprender a observar y dibujar plantas!
Ilustradora Julia Moore nos guiará a través de algunos conceptos básicos de dibujo, como sombreado / proporciones, así como varias formas de crear materiales de arte básicos del mundo natural que te rodea.  Julia también ofrecerá una introducción básica de identificación de plantas, así como habilidades de dibujo en el campo, como el prensado de flores (para incluir plantas en su cuaderno), técnicas de observación y más! Algunos materiales de arte básicos de la naturaleza serán ofrecidas con tinta de remolacha / jugo de moras, barras de pintura hechas de palos y carbón. Esta clase es para principiantes y artistas avanzados-- hay algo que aprender para todos! Esta clase es ideal para aquellos que aman los paseos por las plantas y desean mejorar sus técnicas de dibujo. Invita a tus amigxs! :)

-Un paquete impreso creado por Julia será entregado, que demuestra varias lecciones y técnicas de dibujo de campo que se discutirán
-Pigmentos naturales y materiales de dibujo (tinta de remolacha / jugo de moras, barras de pintura y carbón). Llevarás a casa un frasco pequeño de tinta de jugo de remolacha y un poco de carbón con que puedes dibujar! 
-Un montón de increíbles habilidades de dibujo
-Identificación básica de plantas
-Un té delicioso de Yaupon Holly con miel, y otros refrescos

SOBRE LA ARTISTA:
Julia Moore está situado en Asheville, North Carolina and es una ilustradora médica y científica que se graduó con una licenciatura en Ilustración Médica y Científica de VCU in 2016 con un menor en biología que actualmente trabaja para una compañía médica legal creando infografías que explican procesos científicos complejos a través de ilustraciones. También trabaja  para una compañía holística de suplementos veterinarios naturales. Su trabajo también ha sido publicado en el ASAM libro de texto 2018, The Scientist magazine, Current Biology, revistas internacionales, y otras publicaciones. Sábado 14 de Marzo de las 10 - 11:30, Sowing Circle Series tendrán un taller gratis sobre la cultivación de verduras de raíz, incluindo rábano picante, espárragos, ruibarbo, etc.
La experiencia es un maestro excelente, y hemos invitado a Chris Smith, author and director ejecutivo de The Utopian Seed Project. Chris compartirá consejos sobre todo como el principio de la cultivación y cosecha exitosa de vegetales de raíz. Chris tambien tendra su libro The Whole Okra firmado y en venta.

Youth Programming in the Garden

 Botanical Illustrations
WHEN: Saturday, February 29th from 1:00-3:00 PM

INSTRUCTOR: Julia Moore
Do you have a love for drawing and nature? Come learn to observe and draw plants!
Illustrator Julia Moore will guide us through some drawing basics like shading/proportions as well as various ways of creating basic art materials from the natural world around you. Julia will also offer a basic plant identification introduction as well as field sketching skills such as flower pressing (to include plants in your sketchbook), observation techniques and more! Some basic art materials from nature will be supplied with beet/berry juice ink, paint sticks made from sticks and wood charcoal. This class is for beginners to advanced artists-- there is something for everyone to learn! This class is great for those who love plant walks and or want to improve their technical drawing skills. Invite your friends! :)

-Paper or a sketchbook to draw on (some paper will be provided)

-A printed packet created by Julia will be handed out, which demonstrates various drawing lessons and field sketching techniques that will be discussed.
-Natural pigments and drawing materials (beet/berry ink, paint sticks, charcoal). You will bring home a small vial of beet juice ink and some charcoal you can draw with!
-A lot of amazing drawing knowledge skills
-Basic plant identification
-Delicious local Yaupon Holly tea w/ honey, and other refreshments

ABOUT THE ARTIST:
Julia Moore is located in Asheville, North Carolina and is a medical and scientific illustrator who graduated with a bachelor's degree in Medical and Scientific Illustration at VCU in 2016 with a minor in Biology who is currently working for a medical legal company creating infographics that explain complex scientific processes through illustrations. She also works part time for a holistic natural veterinarian supplement company. Her work has also been published in the ASAM 2018 textbook, The Scientist magazine, Current Biology, international magazines and multiple other publications.  “We are looking for garden buddies to volunteer at Hall Fletcher Elementary. This is an opportunity to connect with kids for an hour (or two) during the week, and enjoy some gardening with them. All you have to do is complete the volunteer background check and come for 30 minutes to 1 hour to hang out!”

Some of our most cherished sustainable farming practices – from organic agriculture to the farm cooperative and the CSA – have roots in African wisdom. Yet, discrimination and violence against African-American farmers has led to our decline from 14 percent of all growers in 1920 to less than 2 percent today, with a corresponding loss of over 14 million acres of land. Further, Black communities suffer disproportionately from illnesses related to lack of access to fresh food and healthy natural ecosystems. 
Soul Fire Farm, co-founded by author, activist, and farmer Leah Penniman, is committed to ending racism and injustice in our food system. Through programs such as the Black-Indigenous Farmers Immersion, a sliding-scale farm-share CSA, and Youth Food Justice leadership training, Soul Fire Farm is part of a global network of farmers working to increase farmland stewardship by people of color, restore Afro-indigenous farming practices, and end food apartheid. And now, with the new book Farming While Black, Soul Fire Farm extends that work by offering the first comprehensive manual for African-heritage people ready to reclaim our rightful place of dignified agency in the food system. Join us to learn how you too can be part of the movement for food sovereignty and help build a food system based on justice, dignity, and abundance for all members of our community.

All About Growing Onions, Potatoes & Other Root Vegetables
WHEN: Saturday, March 14th, 10-11:30am.
WHERE: 105 N. Dougherty St.
On Sat., March 14, 10 to 11:30 am, the Sowing Circle Series will hold a free workshop on growing all sorts of root vegetables plus horseradish, asparagus, rhubarb, and others.
Experience is a great teacher and we have invited Chris Smith, author and executive director of The Utopian Seed Project, to share tips to get you started on growing a successful harvest of all sorts of root vegetables. Chris will also have his book, The Whole Okra, on sale and autograph it for you.
The seed library has a wide variety of free flower, herb and vegetable seeds for you to take home. The gardening series are held at the Black Mountain Library's Education Room at 105 N. Dougherty Street. Our presentations are in partnership with Black Mountain Blooms Seed Lending Library and Buncombe County Extension Master Gardener Volunteers. Come join our gardening community and grow with us!
